Three Dimensional (3D) Imaging is also known as Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography or a CBCT. The CBCT allows the doctor to view three dimensional images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways, and bone in one single scan. This imagery is important prior to many procedures, including extractions and implants. It also allows the doctor to evaluate a patient’s bone for diseases or malformations of the jaw, dentition, and bony structures of the face, nasal cavity, and sinuses.
The machine that we have here in our office is the Sirona XG3D. This machine allows us to take both Two Dimensional Panoramic and the Three Dimensional CBCT. The XG3D also allows us to take images on both pediatric and adult patients as it is fully adjustable and it produces the highest quality images available. Any images taken in 3D format are sent to a program called SiDexis that allows Dr. Beischel to view slices and specific sites within the image – much like a medical CT scan. If you are sent to a specialist for any reason, we are able to transfer these images onto a disc that provides a copy of the software so the provider you are referred to is able to view the scan, even if they don’t have the technology within their own office. This has proved invaluable to us and our patients.
